I haven’t played any of the World of Warcraft games, but when I saw this movie advertised, I thought it looked quite intriguing.
It was good to have the opportunity to see both of the main races in Azeroth, though I would have liked to see more of the elves and dwarves.
There was a really good atmosphere in this film and I thought it was good that it was made clear the orcs and humans spoke very different languages.
I did feel that some of the character development fell by the wayside a bit. For instance, I would have liked to see a bit more of Lothar’s relationship with his son, though I found his relationship with Garona was quite an interesting one.
I liked Durotan and the fact that his relationship with his wife was really moving, though I found it harder to differentiate between the different orcs apart from Gul’dan, who I really didn’t like.
I did think Garona was an intriguing character and I liked the fact that I was able to get to learn bits and pieces of her past. I did like the King and it was good to see his relationship with Lothar… and I did like Lady Taria. While I didn’t get to know too much about most of the characters’ pasts, I did care about them as I was watching the movie and I wanted them to stay safe.
I thought Medivh was an interesting character, though I would have liked to see a bit more of his history and how Moroes came into all of it. I did like Khadgar and it was good to see the differences between the different kinds of magic.
I enjoyed this film as an introduction to the world and it was nice to see that the orcs had their own culture as well. I especially liked that they had honour, even if they didn’t like halfbreeds. I’d probably watch this film again in the future.
