I understand this is a remake of a previous film, but I’ve only seen this one, so I can’t say how much it sticks to or differs from the original film.
Apart from the fact that this was a horror, the main thing that made me want to watch this was the fact that Jensen Ackles was in the film. Jensen Ackles is one of the two main actors in Supernatural – he plays Dean Winchester.
I felt this film was good in parts and not so much in others. I figured out who the killer was pretty much straight away when I saw this originally at the cinema. The first part of the film also takes place ten years previously, but the same actors are used for the characters at both ages. For the most part, I think a good job was made with aging the actors down (or up, depending which way you look at it), but the exception was Jensen Ackles – he did look the same age all through the film.
There was a lot of gore in this film. I saw it originally in 3D and felt that was one of the times a film really worked in 3D. I liked the relationships between the characters and although this was a slasher film, I felt that there was some effort made to establish the characters.
This film is one of those that’s set itself up for a sequel. The problem I have with that is the simple fact that there are rarely sequels. The special effects are quite cool and very cringe-worthy. There’s also a good host of actors generally in the film.
If you like horror and slasher films, I’d say this is one that might be worth seeing.
