Description:
It’s been three months since mild-mannered Christopher Buckley began working with Olivia Faraday, the eccentric Deathsniffer. They’ve hunted killers, solved murders, and learned to work together. But their greatest challenges are yet to come…
As a brutal heat wave wracks an increasingly unstable Darrington City, someone is killing young priests. Worse, they are using bound elementals to do it. As Chris and Olivia contend with rogue spiritbinders and a church under siege, the clock ticks down toward the trial of Doctor Francis Livingstone, accused of orchestrating the fall of the Floating Castle and the death of thousands. Chris believes the doctor is innocent, but the tide of the conspiracy aligned against him is strong enough to wash away anyone who would stand for him.
How far is Chris willing to go to save the doctor? Can Darrington city survive the rival forces tearing it apart? And can Olivia find her first serial killer before another body drops?
About The Author
Kate McIntyre was born and raised in the frigid white north, having spent her entire life in Moncton, New Brunswick. She learned to appreciate the quintesstial Canadian things: endless winters, self-deprecating jokes, the untamed wilderness, and excessive politeness. Somehow it was the latter that she chose to write about.
She has been writing since she was five years old and nothing has ever stopped her for long. Her first novel was about a lady mouse detective saving her turtle janitor boyfriend from kidnappers, so it’s nice to know she always loved lady detectives. She is the proud author of sixteen embarrassing hidden novels and one publishable one.
Kate loves crochet, video games, board games, reading, and listening to bad pop music very loudly. She spends several months of the year in Illinois, and the rest of the time lives in a big country home with two cats who refuse to stay

After Charlotte’s true identity is reveled, she and Brady’s lives collide in a battle to save her town from becoming collateral damage. But when Charlotte receives death threats, Brady must choose between his job, his men, or the dream woman who shattered the shield protecting his heart.
(This review may contain spoilers).
Although I haven’t read the previous two books in this trilogy, I did find this one really easy to follow. It was really good to be able to learn more about Charlotte’s past as Brady did… and although there were some sudden changes in the character’s perspectives, for the most part, it wasn’t confusing to suddenly end up in the other’s head.
I did think that the development of the romance was sweet, even though I felt a lot of the book was spent with Charlotte and Brady being told by their friends to get their acts together. And there was one part in particular when I felt Colum’s priorities were really skewed.
I would have liked to see a bit more of Charlotte’s interactions with her friends… and I would have also liked to see something of Brady interacting with his team members. Since he was insistent on the fact he trusted his team not to be a leak, it would have been good to see that trust borne out.
I thought that Charlotte’s ideas for articles were really good and I also thought it was good to see her motivations behind doing those. I think it would have been good to see more of her interactions with Dennis, as by the time he cropped up again towards the end of the book, I’d more or less forgotten who he was.
I did think the romance moved a little too quickly, considering the hang-ups both of the main characters had. I did like the fact they had something in common in regards to the classic novels and it was good to see that there was a lot of conflict in their relationship.
I did feel a lot of sympathy towards Helen and although the book was slow-moving with the action to begin with, by the end, I felt it picked up a lot more and I was avidly reading to see what would happen next.
In the future, it would be good to read the other books in this trilogy and also other books by this author… but it would be good to see more of the other characters and their relationships.

My Review
(I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a review).
(This review may contain spoilers).
While the plot of this book did sound a bit intriguing, I found it to be quite disappointing by the time I got to the end of this.
I felt that Larissa didn’t really have much depth to her. She didn’t have to work for anything… and I had no idea what the world was supposed to be like. I’d assumed that they were on modern-day Earth, but there seemed to be a lot of people who knew about the witches, to the point that the witch taxi service seemed to be Googable.
There was too much in the way of information dumping in this book. I found it very hard to believe in the friendship between Larissa, Chantelle and Jake… and it seemed completely strange that Jake would change his name, considering that there was nothing about them needing to keep so much secret… and, in fact, there was nothing about ‘normal’ humans and how they fit in with everything.
While the details about the Northern Lights having holes in them were intriguing, I was too busy trying to figure out why, if Larissa was known to be the Chosen One, no one bothered to give her any training until it was almost too late. What magic could she do? What were her strengths? Weaknesses? How did her friendship with Chantelle come into being?
While reading, I felt I was missing a huge part of this story. The different creatures were interesting, but there was nothing about the history. And I really didn’t understand the whole witches thing. There seemed to be different kinds of witches that weren’t really explored… not to mention the implications that the evil witches weren’t anything but caricatures. What were their pasts? What made a witch evil? By the end of the book, I had very little in the way of information or background.
The writing itself kept switching between past and present tense, as well as slipping out of first person. I found this book really quite disappointing and I don’t intend to read the next book/s in this series.
As part of this special event, The Wtiches of Panay is on sale now for only 99c! Grab your copy on Amazon today!
