I’ve been seeing this film advertised quite a lot recently. I’d already decided I was going to see it at the cinema and finally wound up going today. I have to say, however, I’m not sure it’s a film I’d see again.
The film actually starts off reasonably well, with a good introduction to the main characters and their relationships. There’s also the hint that something haunts Scarlett, which is a nice piece of foreshadowing.
The visual and audio effects in this film worked particularly well. There was one scene in particular where the sound was distorted and had quite a unique effect. There were other scenes where the lighting worked particularly well and there were a lot of jumpy moments that worked really well.
My problem with this film was the lack of any kind of explanation. It isn’t made clear what’s going on and although the uses of mythology are interesting and work to an extent, I can’t see how they truly fit in.
I did like the hints of a relationship that was between Scarlett and George. I would have liked to see more scenes with them in.
Just once, I think it would be nice if there was a horror movie that actually has a proper ending and explanation for what’s going on. I like finding out the details and, to be honest, this film wasn’t really satisfying at the end.
