This is a film that I have read the book it was made from, though that was quite a long time ago.
This was, in my opinion, one of the more faithful adaptations of book to film. I thought that the actors did a really good job of portraying the characters they were playing and although quite a few scenes had been missed out or changed from the book, it still worked really well.
I felt that the ways information was imparted worked really well. There was the film towards the beginning that was shown and, I felt, was particularly effective. Information was also revealed through hallucinations, which I felt was something that also worked especially well.
I did feel that the film was shot in an effective way. One scene in particular worked really well because there was only music and no other sound – which really added well to the atmosphere.
The contrasts in costume between the Districts and the Capitol worked really well. I particularly liked the actor who played Cinna. He was my favourite character in the books.
I do think this film is worth seeing, even if you haven’t read the books. Although it’s changed some details, it’s nothing major and I think most of it works. I recommend watching it, but some scenes are hard-hitting emotionally.
